Prerequisites: Working at Heights, Hoisting and Rigging (Recommended)
Upon completion of this health and safety training course in Ontario, participants will be able to:
- Follow all safety rules and instructions
- Setup public protection as per work plan
- Select, inspect and connect to fixed support as per roof plan and work plan
- Select, inspect and put-on a full body harness, lanyard and rope grab
- Tie adequate knots
- Rig an outrigger beam
- Set-up and connect a work platform as per manufacturer’s instructions and work plan
- Operate the controls and perform a functional test of a swing stage in accordance with the regulations and the manufacturer’s instructions
- Inspect the SAE and prepare a written report

Upon completion of this health and safety training course, participants will be able to:
- List common hoisting and rigging hazards and causes of accidents
- Identify legislation related to hoisting and rigging
- Know the responsibilities of rigging personnel
- Calculate load weights
- Identify types of cranes, crane components, and hazards
- List factors that affect crane capacity
- Demonstrate a knowledge of international crane hand signals
- Identify ropes, Knots and Hitches, working loads, damage that reduces the capacity of rope
- Identify Hardware, Wire rope and Slings, wear and damage, knowledge of the correct selection and use of hardware. Safe sling configurations
- Identify various types of rigging tools and devices and how to properly use them, inspect them and apply them to requirements

Upon completion of this health and safety training course, participants will be able to:
- Know their rights and responsibilities with regards to working at heights
- Work at heights safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Select, inspect, and use personal fall arrest equipment including a harness and lanyard
- Works toward strengthening workplace safety culture by emphasizing the profile and importance of preventing falls from heights
- Help reduce the number of falls from heights incidents, injuries, and fatalities
Must have completed a ministry approved Working at Heights program within the last 3 years
Your working at heights cannot be expired on the day you do the working at heights refresher course.
Upon completion of this health and safety training course, participants will be able to:
- You will learn regulatory requirements
- Select and inspect industry-standard personal fall arrest equipment
- Be evaluated by a written test and achieve a grade of 75% or better
- Practical evaluation by demonstrating deficiencies in industry-standard personal fall arrest equipment
- Be able to put on and off a harness and maintain tie off points at all times to an anchor point
These objectives will be evaluated by an instructor.

Upon completion of this health and safety training course, participants will be able to:
- Explain and understand the roles and responsibilities of operating a PEWP safely and in accordance with the regulations and the manufacturer’s instructions
- Working safely while operating
- Proper use of harnesses and lanyards
- Identify any Hazards and be aware of how to avoid them
- Knowledge of how to perform a function test, a site inspection, and a pre-operation inspection and how to document them
- Show proficiency in operation of machines
- Recognize and evaluate hazards of propane
- Demonstrate how to safely connect and disconnect vehicle propane cylinders

- Operate a 0 – 8 mobile cranes
- Show knowledge of responsibility of the hoisting personnel
- Demonstrate the ability to both read and apply the use of load charts

FTI’s Confined space training is an awareness-level program and is designed to be used in conjunction with the site-specific information and training designated by the client. Our goal is to provide the participants with the general knowledge to work in and out of confined spaces. This course covers the regulatory requirements of Ontario Regulation 632/05 including the legal requirements of each level of responsibility for Employers, Supervisors and Workers.
This course covers the requirements for the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of a respirator program. This course will discuss how the human respiratory system works, respiratory hazards, qualitative-fit and Quantitative fit testing, the purpose of respiratory protection, different types of respirators and their purposes, and the appropriate use, inspection, cleaning and storage of respirators. Regulation 833 and O.Reg.490/09. Also covered in the program are the CSA standards Z94.4 (Selection use and care of respirators) and Z180.1 (Compressed breathing air and systems).
This course is a model class designed to enable the Instructor/s to train Lead Workers to perform his/her job with the knowledge and skills to work safely and productively while adhering to all provincial, federal and local regulations on lead and lead abatement practices. Students in this health and safety training course will discuss their roles and responsibilities as Lead Workers, safe work practices, PPE, health effects of lead exposure and other hazards such as recognizing lead-based paint hazards, interior and exterior dust abatement, establishing containment areas, setting up and using decontamination processes, waste disposal and clean-up and inspection procedures.

Approximately 144 fatalities occur every year due to incidents involving the accidental release of hazardous energy in the workplace. Failure to follow LOCKOUT/TAGOUT procedures can also lead to severe injuries such as contusions, lacerations, and amputations.
FTI believes that the LOCKOUT/TAGOUT standard (CSA Z460-13) will raise the awareness level of workers and in turn, help prevent injuries or fatalities that occur from exposure to hazardous energy in the workplace. Students in the health and safety training course will learn the essentials of lockout/tagout. Objectives include discussions on why lockout/tagout is necessary; potential hazards associated with the accidental release of stored energy; proper procedures for lockout/tagout; special lockout/tagout situations; equipment start-up and operation procedures; and their role in preventing incidents.
