The glazing industry in Ontario reached an important milestone this fall as the Finishing Trades Institute of Ontario (FTI Ontario), together with IUPAT District Council 46 and the Architectural Glass and Metal Contractors Association (AGMCA), successfully hosted the 1st Annual Glazier Expo.
Held on October 24, 2025, the event brought together over 150 attendees, including glaziers, apprentices, contractors, architects, manufacturers, and industry partners, marking a significant new chapter for glazing education and collaboration in the province.
More than a showcase, the Expo delivered tangible outcomes that underline the value of continuous training and the strength of Ontario’s glazing community.
A Successful First Year
The turnout exceeded expectations for a first-year event, and the Glazier Expo floor remained active throughout the day, with steady traffic moving through vendor booths, demonstrations, training displays, and hands-on exhibits.
Feedback from attendees highlighted one of the event’s biggest strengths: the opportunity for meaningful industry-wide connection. From emerging talent to veteran contractors, the Expo served as a central hub for conversations about equipment, installation techniques, innovations, safety, and future project needs.

Live Demonstrations That Highlighted Industry Innovation
The Glazier Expo floor featured a range of live demonstrations and product displays that gave attendees a firsthand look at the tools, systems, and materials shaping the glazing trade today. Exhibitors used the opportunity to showcase what’s new, what’s evolving, and what’s helping contractors work more efficiently and safely in the field.

One display that generated notable interest came from Anaconda Glass, whose heated glass demo captured the attention of many attendees.
Beyond that, vendors engaged guests with hands-on opportunities to explore new products, ask technical questions, and discuss how different solutions apply to real jobsite challenges. The diversity of exhibitors ensured value for everyone, from glazing contractors and apprentices to architects and project managers.
FTI’s own training stations gave attendees the chance to see how modern tools and methods are being integrated into the curriculum, reinforcing the Institute’s role in preparing glaziers for next generation building demands. A standout feature of the day was the new VR Glazier Training Experience, developed by LogicalDox in collaboration with FTI Ontario and guided by FTI instructor James Clifford.
The VR station featured two unique demos:
- Training Demo: allowed learners to experience realistic jobsite scenarios, tool handling, and safety procedures.
- Recruitment Demo: offered potential new members a vivid introduction to life as a glazier.
Participants explored tasks in a simulated environment designed to increase engagement, reduce learning barriers, and support a more immersive training pathway. The VR station remained busy all day, underscoring strong industry interest in modern learning tools.
Supporting Workforce Growth
One of the most important outcomes of the Glazing Expo is its impact on workforce development. As demand grows across Ontario and beyond for building envelope specialists and skilled glaziers, events like this help strengthen the entire labour pipeline.
Contractors use the Expo to meet emerging talent, understand training pathways, and identify opportunities to support workforce readiness. Apprentices and newer workers benefit from exposure to experienced mentors and industry leaders. Together, these interactions help build a more informed and engaged workforce, something FTI is deeply committed to advancing.
Education & Certification at the Forefront
A central goal of the Glazier Expo is to connect industry needs with education and certification standards. The event delivered on this by offering:
- instructor-led demonstrations
- tool and equipment training
- safety-focused presentations
- discussions on emerging installation practices and materials
The Expo helped reinforce the importance of staying certified, staying current, and staying adaptable which are outcomes that directly support the workforce pipeline across Ontario.
Building a Stronger Glazing Community
More than a technical showcase, the Expo succeeded in strengthening connections across the industry. Contractors and architects gained insight into the depth of FTI’s training programs, while apprentices and students spent the day learning, observing, and engaging with employers.
Manufacturers and suppliers used the event to gather direct feedback from the field, better understand training needs, and align future innovations with real jobsite challenges.
The positive energy throughout the day reflected a shared commitment to craftsmanship, safety, and the long-term growth of the trade.
How the Glazier Expo is a Foundation for an Annual Tradition
The success of the inaugural Glazier Expo affirms its importance as a new annual touchpoint for Ontario’s glazing industry. Its impact was felt not only in attendance and engagement but in the enthusiasm shown by participants, instructors, and partners.
This first Expo sets the stage for:
- stronger partnerships
- expanded vendor participation
- deeper training integration
- enhanced innovation showcases
- greater recruitment opportunities
For FTI Ontario, the event reinforces their mission, to educate, elevate, and support the glazing trade so that workers, contractors, and industry partners can continue to meet the evolving demands of modern construction.
Looking Forward

With overwhelmingly positive feedback and clear value delivered to all participants, the Glazier Expo has established itself as an essential event for the future of glazing in Ontario. FTI Ontario looks forward to building on this momentum and welcoming even more members of the glazing community to next year’s Expo.
