Apprenticeships are opportunities to learn a trade and earn money at the same time. Union affiliated apprentices enjoy tuition free education, benefits, and the opportunity to "earn while you learn". An education and no debt!
At FTI Ontario, we offer Red Seal apprenticeship training in Painter Decorator Commercial & Residential 404C and Architectural Glass & Metal Technician (Glazier) 424A. We also offer apprenticeship training in Painter Decorator Industrial 404D (non Red Seal). Each trade consists of a learning on-the-job component and an in-school component. The in-school component is typically delivered in three 8-week (240 hour) blocks, totaling of 720 hrs.
In order to successfully complete the apprenticeship program apprentices must successfully complete all three levels of school and on-the-job learning (work hours), which must total a minimum of 6,000 hours for Painters and 8,000 hours for Glaziers. Once apprentices have completed their schooling and work hours, they will be eligible to write the Province of Ontario Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) exam for their trade to become a certified Journeyperson. For Painter Decorators and Glaziers passing the Ontario C of Q exam also provides you with the Red Seal certification which is recognized across Canada.
